Fighting Food Insecurity during COVID-19
From March, 2020 through October, 2021, we stood in the gap to fight food insecurity in our Durham community. Food insecurity became very personal to us at the beginning of the pandemic, when schools were not open for in-person learning, leaving some students without a needed source of nutrition. Parents of kids who had attended our previous summer camp reached out for help. We immediately mobilized volunteers and donations in order to meet the needs of the kids and their families. While we thought we would be standing in the gap for a couple of weeks, God had other plans! Since March 18, 2020, we have provided over 93,000 meals!
Thank you, WTVD11, for sharing our story!
Fighting Food Insecurity Moving Forward
We are committed to continuing the fight against food insecurity. Join the efforts of our next initiative, the 2021 THANKSGIVING FOOD DRIVE! Help make a difference for 50 local families by donating items for Thanksgiving meal boxes. We will collect food items through Sunday morning, November 21st, then pack and distribute boxes at 3:00pm on November 21st. Donate here. Or purchase the items and bring to our distribution site at 2400 Broad Street, Suite 5, Durham, NC 27704 and leave in our food collection box at the back entrance.
During the Thanksgiving Food Drive, we will also collect children's coats for kids in our local community. We are accepting new or gently used CLEAN coats (nothing stained, damaged, or dirty please). Coats of all sizes can be left at the collection box at the back entrance of 2400 Broad Street, Durham, NC 27704,
